A Living, Breathing Landmark
The restoration of Hull Minster is more than a case study
in exemplary heritage regeneration—it is a living testimony to what can be achieved when care, collaboration,
and craftsmanship are at the heart of a project.
As Mark Coates, Director at Alan Wood & Partners,
reflects: “The project has been a huge success, a labour of love
and a joy to work with a committed client, consultants, and
contracting teams. It’s a career highlight and something we are
immensely proud of. To see a beautiful and important building
evolve for current and future generations, while retaining its
dignity and splendour, is incredibly rewarding.”
From Wilberforce’s baptism to Turner Prize exhibitions,
Hull Minster continues to be the beating heart of the city.
Thanks to this transformative project, led with skill and
sensitivity by Alan Wood & Partners, it is ready to
welcome all—worshippers, visitors, and citizens—for
centuries to come.
Winning the RIBA Yorkshire Award Winner 2025 the
jury says, "Hull Minster, formerly Holy Trinity Church, is
considered the largest parish church in the country. An insulated limestone floor replaces dark tiles, and again provides
versatility for hosting concerts, installations, community events
and festivals.
The jury were impressed with the new-found possibilities of the
building, as a place of worship, cultural and civic centre, gallery,
marketplace as well as a warm space and place of refuge. The
latest phase of works undertaken has been a reordering of the
choir vestry and former boiler room to the south-west."
