Dr Aaran Marriner-Clark is Fellow of the RICS and Fellow of CABE and is a Chartered
Fellow Building Surveyor. & Chartered Fellow Building Engineer, his specialist areas
of expertise are housing pathology and black mould. His current position is Managing
director of the chartered surveyor.com. A RICS regulated company, dealing with
housing pathology, supplying expert witness reports for the HM court services and
for barristers throughout the UK.
Dr Marriner-Clark is a doctor of Philosophy from Suffolk College 1993 (Ofqual level
8.) His PhD research looked at the cause and distribution of black pin mould in
housing in the UK. This allowed him to achieve full membership of the British
Mycological Society in 2019, (Ofqual level 6.) Dr Marriner-Clark is the only BMS
accredited black pin mould housing pathology expert in the UK. President and Fellow
of the National Institution of Black Mould Experts (Ofqual level 8.) Also, awarded
Fellowship of The Royal Society for Public Health, in recognition of his work in Black
pin mould (Ofqual level 8.)

Responsible for reactive housing complaints work, HHSRS assessment, HMO
licensing and enforcement of housing standards for councils across the UK for in excess
of 30 years. Dr Marriner-Clark has been engaged as an expert witness for many years
mediating in complex court cases where his knowledge and expertise are required to
give direction to the courts.
Enforcement of housing legislation has been the backbone of his career, such as
prosecuting landlords under the Housing Act 2004, and advised on disputes arising in
relation to the Council’s property portfolio, HHSRS and housing standards litigation
assessment and to draft advice notes, conduct legal research and prepare reports for
Committees for consideration. Furthermore, he has attended relevant Committees
and present reports as required by numerous council Solicitors and he has given
testimony in countless court cases.
