This change affects all individuals who have been using
the Experienced Worker Route/Grandfather Rights to
hold a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
card without formal qualifications.
What are Experienced workers?
Experienced Workers/Grandfather Rights have been able
to obtain a CSCS cards based on their industry experience
rather than formal qualifications. This provision has been
in place to recognise the skills and expertise of longserving workers in the construction industry.
What has changed?
As of 31st December 2024, Experienced Workers/Grandfather Rights will no longer be recognised for CSCS card
renewals. This means that all workers who currently hold
a CSCS card under Experienced Workers/Grandfather
Rights will need to meet the standard requirements. This
will include holding a relevant construction qualification
or completing the appropriate training and assessments
(NVQ).
Starting from 1st January 2025, all construction workers
will be required to demonstrate their competence with an
accredited qualification, professional memberships or
academic qualifications specified at the CSCS website
(www.cscs.uk.com) : –
• A Specialist Applied Skills Programme or
Apprenticeship Scheme
• A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
• A Higher National Certificate (HNC)
• A Higher National Diploma (HND)
• Professional Body Memberships
• Academic Certification
