As the newly appointed Chair of the RIBA Exeter Branch,
Caroline brings a wealth of experience and a positive vision
for the future of architecture in the region. She is focused
on supporting the professional development of members,
advocating for the advancement of architectural practices
that embrace technology, sustainability, and responsiveness
to societal needs. Caroline is particularly passionate about
increasing diversity and inclusivity within the architectural
profession, ensuring it reflects the community it serves. She
envisions the RIBA Exeter Branch as a platform for meaningful
collaboration, knowledge sharing, and public engagement,
aiming to raise awareness of the critical role architects play in
shaping our built environment.

About Caroline Shortt
Caroline Shortt is a Chartered Architect and Director of
Barc Architects, an Exeter-based architectural firm she
has led for over twelve years. A graduate of The Dublin
School of Architecture, Caroline has built a career marked
by a dedication to sustainable and clientcentred design
principles. She creates homes and spaces that not only
serve their inhabitants but also contribute positively to the
wider community and environment. Her projects span
from residential private homes to commercial properties,
each reflecting a commitment to innovative solutions and
architectural excellence.
A problem solver at heart, Caroline welcomes the unique
challenges of each architectural project and is committed to
understanding and responding to her client’s individual needs.
She is as equally happy overseeing work onsite as she is
drawing plans and finds herself involved in every aspect of
her projects. As an architect, Caroline is committed to creating
buildings that delight and create everyday joy.
