Dr Sikandar Kamlana is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 35 years experience of
working with adult patients in the NHS and in the private sector. He currently works as a
Medical Director for a number of private hospitals in Billingham and Hull.

Dr Kamlana has been appointed as a specialist for the Independent Medical Appeal
board, he is a panel member for Medical and Professional Services Limited (MAPS) for
medical legal reports, a member of BUPA Expert Panel Witness Management Services,
Medreport, Pemex, IMR (Insurance Medical Reporting) and a medical member of the
Panel of Examiners for the National Medical Examination Network for War Pensions.

I have worked as a consultant psychiatrist in rehabilitation psychiatry in the independent
sector for 15 years where all of my patients were commissioned by the NHS. I have also
previously worked part time in the NHS for 15 years in both inpatient and outpatient
settings. In total, I have cared for NHS patients for 25 years. I have been working within
the speciality since 2001 and first worked as a consultant in 2009. I have also worked in
a medical management position as a medical director for six years.
Dr Kamlana regularly prepares psychiatric reports for leading firms of solicitors
throughout the UK. After the assessment, he would normally expect to have completed
his report within 21 days.
I have a Certificate of Completion of specialist Training (CCT) in general adult
psychiatry and a specialist endorsement in liaison and rehabilitation psychiatry.

I have given evidence at crown court, civil court, mental health review tribunals,
employment tribunals, regulatory body tribunals, family court, parole board hearings,
coroner's court and the Royal Courts of Justice.
Since 2009 I have prepared an average of 75 medico-legal reports a year for civil,
family, criminal courts and employment tribunals.

Dr Kamlana can act on behalf of either claimant or defendant or as a Single Joint Expert
and has appeared in court on many occasions and given expert evidence - 70%
claimant and 30% defendant cases.
Once instructed, I can turn my reports around in four weeks. My claimant-defendant
ratio is 60:40.
He will undertake prison visits if possible but requires a considerable amount of notice to
do this.
