Conservation & Heritage Issue 52 Summer/Autumn 2026 - Flipbook - Page 3
Editorial
Welcome to the summer/autumn edition of the Conservation & Heritage Journal.
We feature a wonderful project at the beginning of the journal, Manor Farm Barn on the Highclere Estate, originally a threshing
barn built between 1451-1453 for the Bishop of Winchester.
A practical Guide for Custodians & Contractors regarding painting the exterior of older buildings is an interesting guide sent
in by regular contributors Earthborn Paints.
A beautiful project in this issue is Salford Cathedral. Specialist Contractors ABM Tiling provide the lead article and images and
show us their magnificent work in restoring the floor at the heart of the Cathedral, the image on page 31 shows what craftsmen
they are and just how beautiful the new floor is. Regular Contributors Purcell then follow the ABM article with an article titled
“Salford Cathedral; A Glory Renewed
and Restored.”
We then turn to Ecological Building Systems who have provided an interesting and important article titled “Building Better,
for new build & retrofit.”
We are very happy to welcome The National Churches Trust to the journal with what we hope to be the first of many articles. The
all encompassing and catchy title to the article is “The importance of using the correct specialist when working on Cathedrals,
Churches and Historic Buildings”.
Once again we run Royal Warrant articles, beginning with an unforgettable invitation to a Royal Warrant event and Tour of
the Royal Mews. This is followed by The Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to the Handel Hendrix House Museum.
Stiebel Eltron in partnership with Elite Renewables then talks about “ Preserving the past, Heating the Future: How to
successfully upgrade Heritage Buildings”.
Stannah Lifts tell us how they delivered safer handling and enhanced efficiency at the Harris following the £19 million
reimagining project.”
New to the journal are The Architects Studio based in Cambridge, we welcome Patricia and her contribution; here at the
journal we loved the Becket’s Chapel Project.
Regular Contributors ION Glass talk about St Gregory’s Church in North Devon a church that has been serving its community
for around 900 years.
I do hope you enjoy our varied assortment of articles. Please email me with your thoughts on any of the articles published in
this issue as I would love to read them - conservationandheritagejournal@gmail.com
We already have excellent articles and features lined up for the Autumn issue but for now enjoy the rest of your summer and
I’m sure many of you will be jetting off on your holidays over the next few weeks.
