conservation covers can provide decades of protection with
secure and easy installation. Investment in a good quality
covering system pays for itself over the years through reduced
maintenance and repair costs.
Consider specialist conservation winter covers for pieces
that are of a high heritage value or have known structural
vulnerabilities. Cliveden Conservation has developed a
bespoke winter cover with a three-layer breathable system
that creates a stable microenvironment around statuary,
reducing temperature fluctuations and eliminating water
penetration while allowing essential air circulation. The
covers are suitable for stone, marble, terracotta and concrete
objects. Cast concrete often has iron armatures within which
can corrode if moisture finds its way in.
Looking ahead
Although the sun, blue skies and colourful plantings are
painting a beautiful picture across historic gardens and
landscapes, now is the time to address winter damage to
outdoor statuary and decorative ornaments, carry out
remedial repairs and place orders for winter covers before
demand peaks ahead of the winter. The aim throughout is
to slow inevitable deterioration while preserving the historic
integrity and aesthetic value of our precious pieces.

protective winter cover systems, site-specific surveys, tailored
collection management and sympathetic stone repairs.
