Conservation & Heritage Issue 49 October 2025 - Flipbook - Page 3
Editorial
Welcome to issue 49 of Conservation and Heritage Journal
In this issue we feature the restoration of No.1 Albemarle Street in Piccadilly, one of the
UK’s largest terracotta projects in recent years. Following the erection of a crash deck in
2022 due to concerns about the façade’s poor condition, a full programme of conservation
was launched in 2024. Led by Principal Contractor and façade specialists Restore London
Ltd, the project has returned this Grade II listed building to its former splendour and
safeguarded another important heritage asset for the future.
We celebrate the winners of the King’s Trust Awards 2025, which was hosted by His
Majesty at Buckingham Palace. The King’s Trust Awards recognise young people who have
improved their own chances in life and had a positive impact on their local community.
On page 20, Shield Pest Control are celebrating 50 years of service, standing as one of
London’s longest-established and most highly regarded pest control companies.
Architect Kevin Davies provides insight into the benefits of using traditional Swedish
linseed oil paint. This is a series of articles which will be continued in the next issue.
We also feature articles from St Mary Magdalene Church, Great Hampden,
Buckinghamshire; a medieval makeover of Caerphilly Castle’s Great Hall and the
completion of a modernist townhouse in London by an emerging architecture and interiors
practice, Studio Hagen Hall. See their sensitive, energy-focused transformation on page 72.
