Stone Feder ation Hosts
Parliamentary Reception
On Tuesday 28th October, Stone Federation hosted their first Parliamentary Reception,
under the banner of ‘Building Britain’s Sustainable Future’.
The event enjoyed cross-party support as over 30 MPs and
their team joined the Stone Federation to discuss the way in
which natural stone can help deliver a more sustainable built
environment.
It was so encouraging to see the widespread and genuine
support that the cause of the UK stone industry has from
MPs.
Next year, Stone Federation will be hosting a roundtable
discussion, which will provide the opportunity to build on
the success of this year’s event and start to create initiatives
and targets around the areas of focus.
The areas of focus included highlighting the importance of
supporting the UK stone industry and recognising the vital
role that these materials have in helping the Government
achieve its net-zero carbon aims and the circular economy
benefits of supporting the UK’s indigenous quarries.
Putting a spotlight on the skills shortage within the
construction industry and the necessity of investing in
heritage craft skills like stonemasonry.
This event also gave some of the Stone Federation members
the opportunity to connect with their local MPs and connect
them with the wider industry agenda for supporting the
stone industry in Parliament.
