Decor ations and gilding at Lancaster
House, Westminster.
Situated close to Buckingham Palace, Lancaster House is one of the last surviving examples
of extravagant private palaces which were the focus of social and political life in Victorian
and Edwardian London.
Commissioned in 1825 and completed in 1845 it is steeped
in political history. It contains a wide range of lavish rooms
magnificently preserved with Louis 14th style interiors, a
beautiful art collection and splendid gardens.
Purchased for the nation in 1913 and once a home to
the London Museum it has been an important centre for
government hospitality ever since.
In early 2025, Hare & Humphreys were privileged to be
commissioned by Lancaster House to undertake sensitive
repairs and decorations to continue to preserve the
magnificence of this national treasure.
