Peter continued:
“
In some locations it works better to set frameless doors
within a bespoke framed surround. Ion Glass don’t just
produce the glass – we take responsibility for the full
installation, working with skilled craftsmen to create an
appropriate wooden frame. We were especially proud
of the doors we recently installed at Caerphilly Castle,
where every mediaeval arch was a different dimension,
with all the nuances of hand-hewn stonework.”

“
Depending on the dimensions of the entrance it can
be more appropriate to design the entrance with an
overhead transom, with or without the addition of glass
side panels – but that doesn’t mean losing the impact of
having arched glass doors.”
A recent project at St Paul’s Church at Hadley Wood involved
a complex, shaped overhead transom fitted into a bespoke
aluminium frame – which was manufactured in-house by
Ion Glass. The result is a stunning arched entrance in a
rectangular space creating a powerful impression for visitors.
At St Mary’s Church, Balcombe, Ion produced a light and
elegant installation with double doors set under a shaped
transom with ultra slim side panels. The doors themselves
echo the shape of the original external wooden doors and
were enhanced with wholly bespoke handles in the shape of
a cross.
