It’s not just churches that benefit from closing in arches
with glass: Lainston House Hotel, a Grade II listed property
commissioned Ion Glass to close in the arches on a loggia,
creating a warm and inviting interior space for dining and
meetings. The frameless glass entrance door blends in
seamlessly, allowing a unified look between the door and the
surrounding glazing.

Are there any other consideration when installing
glass doors?
Peter replied,
“
Absolutely! There are many alternative options and
design considerations. Designers and clients can specify
single or double-leaf, sliding or hinged glass doors;
clear, tinted, decorative or etched glass; manifest glass
graphics or an opaque or frosted finish. Ion Glass also
work with glass designers to produce unique ‘art glass’
doors for special projects.
Any glass door in a public space will require glass
manifestations to avoid accidents. We can fit standard
manifestations, such as a simple row of dots, or work
with our clients to produce a bespoke design in keeping
with the ethos of the building.
Handles are also a matter of individual choice - many
of our clients opt for ‘off the shelf’ handles, but we
can arrange for these in a variety of different finishes
or powder coated to a specific colour. Custom-made
handles add a unique touch and can be fashioned out
of metal or wood for tailored architectural solutions.
A frameless glass door can appear deceptively simple – it is
definitely worth engaging with a reputable glass expert – such
as Ion Glass - to ensure your door meets all relevant technical
criteria and the result meets your design aesthetic as well as
all functional requirements.
